Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® Masterclass

Michael Chekhov Acting Technique®

August 11 - 16, 2026
Past event
Budapest, Katiha Tangó Stúdió

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® focuses on the creative power of the imagination and the living presence of the human trinity: thinking, willing, and feeling. During the exercises, it not only activates abilities that the actor consciously employs, but also brings hidden faculties to the surface, enriching their artistic toolkit.

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® views the actor not merely as an isolated individual performer, but as part of an organic whole created jointly with other actors and the surrounding environment: space, time, light, sound, fragrance, and colour.

Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® Masterclass® • August 11 - 16, 2026 (Past event) • BUDAPEST - HUNGARY

During this intensive course, each participant can create the unique atmosphere of their character through a monologue. The process builds on the conscious application of imagination and movement, which readily becomes a tool applicable in any other area of life.

Through the fundamental tools of Michael Chekhov's acting technique, individual and ensemble exercises allow actors to master its core, essential toolkit.

A practice-oriented training: its central focus is the character creation and character building process. Through the trinity of thinking, willing, and feeling, participants discover Chekhov's qualities of Truth, Form, Beauty, and Wholeness, developing their imaginative power and radiation.

Topics of the 6-day intensive training:

  • staging a monologue, monodrama (excerpt) or poem with the practical application of the Michael Chekhov technique - Levente Turóczi
  • speech and vocal production as tools for spatial atmosphere and character radiation - Márta Kelemen
  • stage movement as a means of theatrical interpretation of everyday gestures and movements (rhythm, the relationship between text and scene; the influence of atmosphere on movement) - Levente Turóczi
  • individual consultation opportunities

Participation requires no prior training; it is open to everyone.

The training is valuable for professional, experienced, and beginner artists and directors alike — enabling them to develop and deepen their existing knowledge. It is equally open to all curious participants who wish to gain their first impressions and connect with the craft of acting.

(Alongside professional and amateur actors, puppeteers, psychologists, university professors, students, drama teachers, special education teachers, and medical doctors have participated in the training.)

Maximum course capacity: 12 participants!

Participation in the training is confirmed upon receipt of the tuition fee in the bank account following registration.

Theoretical and practical possibilities of composition in the approach of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique®. Polarity, climax, pause, contextual and sentence-structure analysis and interpretation, script instructions, constraints and freedom in interpretations, visible emphases and power relations in space and time, and the effect of composition on the scene and audience.

Speech Technique - Márta Kelemen

Through exercises, participants explore their natural breathing, vocal production, and articulation, enabling them to use vocal delivery according to stage presence and dramatic situation. Rhythm, breathing, voice, and articulation exercises individually, in pairs, and in groups. The workshop exercises target the entire body, the whole personality, and all faculties related to human voice and speech used during stage work, compiled from Hungarian and international methods (e.g. Linklater, Voice Gym, Alexander, Montágh, Fischer).

About the Training

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® places practical tools in the actor's hands to lead them toward genuine expression of their personal abilities and individual creativity.

It simultaneously develops the actor's conscious presence, creative willpower, and perceptive faculties.

This process activates every known and hitherto unfamiliar capability of the actor, taking them beyond their own limits into a state of complete "naturalness". Its effect is immediately perceptible.

The actor learns to trust their own inspirations and capabilities. It views every participant as a free creative artist.

One of its primary tools is imagination — activating imaginative power and creating atmosphere. The actor can use an Imaginary Body or Psychophysical Gesture to create and discover their character. Through this, they discover its movement, speech, feelings, and the world in which the character exists.
