Michael Chekhov Acting Technique®

Fundamentals of Character Building

Michael Chekhov's Acting Technique® focuses on the creative power of the imagination and the presence of the triple unity of man (thinking, sensing, acting). During the exercises, this not only activates abilities that the actor consciously uses, but also enriches their existing tools by revealing hidden creative capacities.

About the Training

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® gives the actor practical tools to truly express their abilities and individual creativity.

It simultaneously develops the actor's conscious presence, creative willpower, and sensory ability.

This process activates all of the actor's known and unfamiliar capacities, leading them beyond their own perceived limits to a state of complete "naturalness". Its effect is immediately tangible.

The actor learns to trust their own inspirations and artistic instincts, regarding every collaborator as a free creative artist.

One of its primary tools is imagination — activating imaginative power and creating atmosphere. The actor can use an Imaginary Body or Psychophysical Gesture to discover and inhabit their character, exploring its movement, speech, inner feelings, and the world in which the character exists.

Approach and Principles of the Training System

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® focuses on the creative power of the imagination and the living presence of the triad of human experience (thinking, feeling, willing / acting). Through practical exercises, it activates not only the tools an actor deliberately employs, but also brings forth latent abilities to enrich their expressive palette.

The technique approaches the actor not as an isolated performer, but as an integral part of a living whole formed together with fellow actors and the surrounding environment (space, time, light, sound, fragrance, colour…).

You know that feeling after a new kind of workout where you discover muscles you did not know existed? After a Chekhov course, I marvelled at my mental and expressive muscles in the same way. Sometimes the revelation hit during the exercise; other times it struck with delayed impact in everyday life. A fantastic feeling to experience myself and my surroundings differently.

During the training you receive something elusive that liberates you, no matter which tree ring of life you are currently on — bottom, top, or right in the middle. You tire physically, but you become mentally free. From outside, from the infinite space of all things, you invite liberating energies in, and once grounded in yourself, you add something of your own and open it out to the world around you.

Why do I recommend it? Because you cannot imagine what you will receive here. When you finally experience it, you feel enriched with something truly exceptional and entirely new. You do not leave as the same person after a workshop, which I find immensely exciting.
