About the Workshop and the Chekhov Technique in a Nutshell
Each session includes opening and closing circles, a physical warm-up, and focused Michael Chekhov exercises to offer firsthand insight into the method and its practical application – expanding participants' creative toolkit with immediately usable tools.
The Chekhov technique focuses on the actor's imaginative capability and physical presence.
Its tools include: the "psychophysical gesture", the body's three centres (will, feeling, thinking), their reciprocal interaction, and the conscious application of imagination.
**The Chekhov Technique in a nutshell.**
"The question is not how talented we are, but what obstacles we face. If we try to increase our talent, we will encounter much disappointment. There is nothing to increase! The question is how to unlock that secret room where our genius resides." – Michael Chekhov
The Chekhov method places practical tools in the actor's hands that lead directly to the genuine expression of their personal capabilities and individual creativity. It simultaneously develops the actor's conscious presence, creative willpower, and sensory awareness. This process activates all of the actor's known and latent capacities, taking them beyond habitual limitations into a state of total "naturalness". Its impact is immediately tangible. The actor learns to trust their own inspirations and capabilities, approaching everyone as a free creative artist.
One of its primary tools is imagination – awakening the imaginative faculty and creating living atmosphere. The actor can use an imaginary body or Psychophysical Gesture to create and discover their character, exploring its movement, speech, inner feelings, and the world in which the character exists.
