Quotes

"The mime does not satisfy himself with being mute; he wants to be Silence itself."
J. L. Barrault
"It is a movement that embodies the character's psychology and objective. The actor, using their entire body – with the greatest possible intensity – provides the actor with the basic structure of the character and at the same time enables the actor … to enter the required various moods and states."
Michael Chekhov

Psychological Gesture Module Content

In the harmony of the threefold unity of the body: thinking, willing, and feeling, participants can create and experience:

  • the atmosphere-creating power of movement gestures
  • gestures associable with shifts, directions, and forms
  • character-shaping power through the radiation of hands, eyes, and facial expression
  • archetypal forms of gestures
  • practical application possibilities of the psychological gesture

All explored through the exercises of Michael Chekhov's technique (e.g. Joerg Andrees, David Zinder, Christiane Goerner, Sarah Kane), individually, in pairs, and in groups.

Pantomime Art Module Content

Insight into the precise physical technique of mime for creating objects, mediums, and characters, as well as the discovery and experiential realization of physical and mental tools in non-verbal acting.

Focal points:

  • plasticity of the hands, micro-isolation, object creation
  • body awareness, independence, movement alongside surfaces
  • creative gaze, imagination, and reality
  • gesture and mimicry
  • emotions and character creation

"When the actor will renounce appearing on stage accompanied by their body, then, and only then, may they renounce studying the arts of movement." (E. Decroux)

About the Training

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® equips the actor with practical tools that lead directly to the genuine expression of their own capabilities and individual creativity.

It simultaneously develops the actor's conscious presence, creative will, and receptive capacity.

This process activates all known and unknown abilities of the actor, taking them beyond their personal limitations into a state of complete "naturalness". Its effect is immediately noticeable.

The actor learns to trust their own inspiration and capabilities, approaching everyone as a free creative artist.

One of its primary tools is imagination – activating imaginative power and creating living atmospheres. The actor can use an imaginary body or Psychological Gesture to create and discover their character. Through this, they can explore its movement, speech, inner feelings, and the world in which the character exists.
