Rhythmology with Marcell Urbán

Mihail Chekhov Acting Technique® with Levente Turóczi

Rhythm as Gesture Module Content

Participants create and experience within the harmony of the threefold unity of the body—thinking, feeling, and willing:

  • the atmosphere-generating power of rhythm
  • gestures associated with individual rhythms
  • archetypal rhythms of gestures
  • the character-shaping power of rhythm through perception and radiation

All explored through the exercises of Michael Chekhov's technique (e.g. Joerg Andrees, David Zinder, Christiane Goerner, Sarah Kane), working individually, in pairs, and as an ensemble.

Rhythmology Module Content

In a musical sense, participants become acquainted with and experience through instruments the elements discoverable across many areas of life:

  • rhythm
  • dynamism
  • the balance-creating power of rhythm and dynamism
  • the triumvirate of attention, focus, and independence

The instinct for music and rhythm resides within everyone. Music is dance, entertainment, humor.

Throughout the programme and training, participants advance into an orchestra by strengthening communication, collaboration, and collective play. During the module, each participant receives an instrument with which they interpret concrete musical pieces in theatrical form, across space and time.

About the Training

The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique® equips the actor with practical tools that lead directly to the genuine expression of their personal creativity and artistic capabilities.

It simultaneously develops conscious presence, creative will, and refined sensitivity.

This process activates both familiar and latent capacities in the performer, taking them beyond their habitual limitations into a state of total ease and naturalness. Its impact is immediate.

The actor learns to trust their own inspiration and capabilities, approaching everyone as a free creative artist.

One of its primary tools is imagination – awakening the imaginative faculty and creating living atmosphere. The actor can use an imaginary body or psychological gesture to build and inhabit a character, discovering its movement, speech, inner feelings, and the world in which the character exists.
