Beyond the expressible
At Éva Újfalusi's exhibition titled From Gestures to Stories, during an unconventional guided tour, the audience was able to express their feelings through movement while contemplating the paintings. During the gesture art guided tour held by Levente Turóczi, visitors could get acquainted with the Chekhov technique and then try it out. Through the exercise, Levente dissolved the fundamental frameworks of interpretation that we cling to intentionally or unintentionally, offering a completely new perspective, unfamiliar to many, for interpreting works of art. The body and movement came into focus as a way of articulating our thoughts. The Chekhov method is an aesthetic experience, an all-excluding exercise in concentration with yourself and your body.
Levente Turóczi held two workshops at MODEM at the invitation of architecture student Tamás Herczeg, as part of our 'Tiéd itt a Tér' event series. Both workshops were connected to one of our current exhibitions. Levente structured the sessions with great expertise and patience, successfully engaging the participants completely and keeping them focused on the tasks. In the last 15-20 minutes of the event, the participants attuned themselves to one of the exhibited works and performed various movements in connection with them. Based on my experience, through such a workshop visitors can connect to individual works of art much more easily.

Inner Journeys exhibition – guided tour and artist meet-and-greet (Past event)
Date: Sunday, 15 October 2023, 17:00 (Past event)
Location: MagNet Community House – 1062 Budapest, Andrássy út 98.
At this event connected to Éva Ujfalusi's Inner Journeys exhibition, we organized a special, unconventional guided tour through curatorial and movement-art approaches.
At the beginning, we opened with a short introduction based on Krisztina's insights, followed by the gesture art guided tour born from subjectivity, where willing participants could explore and embody the paintings with their own bodies through movement experimentation.
"What does an artwork convey?", "What is its feeling, mood, atmosphere?", if movement and physical action are the gesture of feelings and moods. By exploring the artworks, their hidden messages also surface.
At the end of the event, Éva Ujfalusi and Krisztina Juraszek invited the participants to a joint discussion, where they could also engage with the creative and interpretive dimensions behind the paintings.

When the Artwork Begins to Move
What does an artwork convey? What is its feeling, mood, atmosphere? Movement and physical action, as the gesture of feelings, moods, and atmosphere, can express joy, sorrow, love, longing, fear...
By discovering the Psychological Gesture of the artworks, their hidden messages can also emerge. Levente Turóczi, artistic director of the Michael Chekhov Acting Studio and fellow of the Hungarian Academy of Arts Research Institute of Art Theory and Methodology, invites everyone – regardless of age – who would like to get to know the exhibited works not only with their eyes, ears, and touch, but also enjoys experimenting with discovering and embodying them in movement.
Become someone within whom "the artwork begins to move".
During the event, participants were able to take part in two consecutive workshops at the exhibitions:
- Re:Re Artistic Reenactment, the Art of Reenactment (16:00-17:30) and
- Károly Keserü: Around and Around (17:45-19:15).
